We were Gone.
Had a conversation in the Car on our way home after several days away.
Kali: I keep having this weird like day dream where I imagine that we get home and the freezer didn't close all the way and everything is melted and dripping out. (I think I was subconsciously fearing this because the day before I kept finding the freezer open any time after I opened the fridge)
JT: That would suck because we just went to Costco on Saturday and Trader Joe's on Friday.
Kali: That would be so horrible. Do you call those things day dreams... where you just start imagining things happening blah blah blah
Moving on.
10 mins later
Walk in the door to our very warm house ( I turned off our AC while we were gone to save money duh so its probably been in the 80's inside the entire time) Deeeefinitely smells weird- I'm thinking old garbage with dirty diapers in it that we forgot to take out before leaving.
JT is standing in the kitchen ( well hallway actually, the kitchen is miniscule) with his jaw dropped. He does not say anything the following ensues :
Kali: NOOOOOO IT DID NOT
JT: Yes.
Kali: NOOOO
JT: Yes it did. Do you want to clean it up while I unload the car?
The freezer was open. for 4 days. Everything is completely warm and melted. I didn't want Costco bags of edamame, frozen mixed vegetables, chicken breasts, and strawberries. Or two Containers of Costco Ice Cream (Sooooob). Or 4 packages of butter, small bags of frozen vegetables, Gluten free pancakes. ice cream sandwiches. I didn't want any of that.
( Insert Lamenting session here where I mentally tally the prices of all lost items)
But luuuuckily the fridge stayed closed so thats fine... wait what's that you say, oh the freezer cools the fridge too?
Peace out 2 gallons of milk. Gallon of Apple Juice. carton of Oj. Mayonnaise. 3 head of Lettuce. Lunch meat. Costco Cheeses. the list goes on.
At least all the melted chicken juice was outside the fridge and freezer and just on the front of the fridge and all over the floor. If we all get salmonella you know where it came from no need to investigate the Local fast food joints.
Looking for Bright sides people. Bright Sides.

Nooooooo!!! That is awful! Bright side: you didn't get robbed. My day dream (day-mare?) before coming home from a trip is that our computer stuff is gone. We have homeowners insurance, but it's not that, it'd be the loss of pictures. We backup to an external hard drive in case of hardware failure, but that's at home so it'd get swiped, too. We're too cheap to pay for online backup. That's actually part of the reason I blog. I figure even if we lost everything, I'd have about ten pictures per week preserved forever.
erghhhhhh that is the worst thing ever. Also, didn't know that the freezer works the fridge. worst.
ahhhh what a nightmare!! I would have started bawling if I were you!!
