Day 10: July 19, 2006 *The first date*- completely appropriate for today since it was 6 years ago EXACTLY
Yes I know this little series of posts is getting long. why? because this is one of my all time favorite things to reminisce/think about, I love thinking about the little details of OUR story. I'm leaving out a bunch of my thoughts too hahaha!
It was a crazy day to say the least. At work that day a little boy chopped the end of his finger off in a collapsing table, I got to go with him in the ambulance to the hospital and stay until his parents arrive. Crazy times. I also went to a meeting with a girl looking into our church and the missionaries. All before my 7:30 date. I like to think that even though I was hurried I still looked nice. He came to pick me up and maybe met my mom? He told me he had asked his coworkers what some good restaurants were so to pick between a place called the pomegranate or Cucina Cucina. He also said we were going to an outdoor movie at Marymoor park after. FUN! We decided on Cucina Cucina, we sat outside and I am not kidding when I say it took us 20-30 mins to order because we were talking SO much and kept forgetting to decide. We talked and talked and talked and laughed and talked some more. I barely touched my food (right here is the key to my best weight loss plan, eat with someone you love talking to and you realize you get full a LOT sooner than you previously thought).
Near the end of dinner I asked about the movie, after telling me what movie an awkward pause ensued. It wasn't a big deal but I knew the movie was rated R and I had made a decision a long time ago that they weren't for me. (Looking back I am sure it was edited... it was for family movie night in the park hahaha) I awkwardly said "umm ohhh well umm actually I don't watch Rated R movies so maybe we could just um figure something else out." Jt turned the brightest shade of red, completely embarrassed he said " no no no I don't watch rated R movies either, I had no idea that's what it was rated! I am soooo sorry" we had a good laugh and I was happy we were on the same page. We ended up going to the park anyway and looking at stars and talking. He gave me lots of compliments and we talked about things I never thought I would talk about on a first date, important meaningful things like families, his mission, why past relationships didn't work out, dreams for the future, etc. We talked for hours. I think I got home around 1:30 am, what is that like a 6 hour date?? We made plans for the following night to go to another institute class then to play volleyball. He gave me a semi awkward hug at the door and once inside I did some sort of swooning-esque thing of leaning back against the door happily. It was the BEST date I had ever been on.
Day 11: July 20, 2006
We met up at the institute building, went to class together, then rode to another church together to play volleyball. He was soooo good at volleyball, I was and still am completely impressed by his skills. After we played we drove back to where I had left my car. We made plans to go out the following night, and this time when he hugged me he held on just a little longer. and it wasn't awkward. and I loved it. Hugging him is my favorite, it is the most right feeling ever. I got in my car and I remember clearly thinking. "He likes me". I love that about us. two days in and the guessing games were over.
I always hear this little saying in my head "You date people who are all the same and marry the one who is different" I don't mean it in the big picture like date lots of great people then marry a person in prison but rather when you notice something is different with somebody - just the way you are together- that its worth recognizing.
