I wonder...

I was watching tv this morning and saw several anti-depressant commercials and it sort of got me thinking. I definitely think depression is a real issue that many people struggle with however I am often skeptical of things that seem to "explode"  in how often they are diagnosed. As I pondered today my thoughts were... seriously some portion of these people most likely don't have a chemical depression problem they are just tired of dealing with life.
 Rude I know.
Then I thought about what could be causing this huge increase in depression and I sort of realized that depression is a HUGE side effect of the ills our society. How many fewer depression diagnosis's would there be if employers were truly invested in their employees,if everyone wasn't trying to get ahead regardless of who they have to step on to get there, if fewer people were greedy. If parents showed their love for their children with time rather then things? If fewer marriages ended in divorce? If people spent more time with their families then watching demoralizing television or viewing media that makes you want to be something skinnier, sexier, richer. If we weren't all comparing our lives on facebook and continually thinking that EVERY thought we have ever had is worth sharing on some social media... if we thought a little more about helping out our brothers and sisters in this world then ourselves. I wonder if me being a nicer, better person could be one of the best anti-depressant medications out there...
